Description

This is a mid-16th century house, originally a hall house with a crosswing, now divided into three tenements. The house is timber-framed and plastered, with a grey slate and red plain tile roof, hipped on the left side. It has two storeys and a six-window front, featuring various 20th-century casement windows. A central, gabled porch with glazing was added in the 20th century. Chimney stacks are constructed of red and grey brick and rendered. Internally, much of the original timber frame remains, constructed of good-quality oak. This includes jowled storey posts and an arch-braced roof with a side purlin. The roof also features chamfered bridging joists with bar and run-out stops, and soffit tenons with diminished haunches to the floor joists. The hall range comprises four structural bays, while the crosswing has three bays, formerly gabled to the front and now oversailed. Despite the later alterations to the exterior, this is a particularly fine example of a 16th-century traditional house.
