Description

The walled garden at Hutton Hall is a garden wall dating from the 17th or 18th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring various types of bricks and bonding patterns. The wall is located 6 meters to the west of Hutton Hall, running north to south, measuring 49 meters long and 31 meters wide. The shape is rectangular, but the southern end is reduced on the east side to 22 meters where it meets the stable yard, and it stands approximately 2.8 meters high.

The northern end wall appears to be the oldest section, with bricks measuring 0.054 to 0.057 meters thick, arranged in a bond of stretcher courses alternating with courses of stretchers and two headers. It has a shaped brick coping with dog-tooth detailing below and an internal plinth. The western wall features bricks that are 0.07 meters thick in an English bond and is taller at 3.5 meters, lacking true coping. The eastern side has bricks that are 0.057 meters thick, also in an English bond. The southern end is similar, with internal pilasters.

There is a doorway aligned with the front of the house at the northern end of the eastern wall, featuring a door with six fielded panels. A second entrance is located further south, between the stable buildings, which has a 20th-century gate. The garden walls and Hutton Hall are part of a group value context.
