Description

Ellices is a house dating from the early 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of red brick in an irregular Flemish bond and features a hipped roof covered with flat 20th-century tiles. The building has a rectangular plan and includes two rear ground floor extensions from the 20th century, which are not of special interest and are not included in this listing.

The house has two storeys, and the south elevation at the front has plain brick pilasters at the east and west ends. There are three windows on this elevation, with segment-headed ground floor windows. All windows have moulded architraves and are sashes with glazing bars, featuring 4x4 panes. The central front doorway is a simple 20th-century version of a pedimented hood on brackets, with a plain door that has an upper glazed light with leaded panes and a simple rectangular fan light.

At the rear, the north elevation has twin hipped gabled roofs and features two first-floor windows, one being a single casement and the other a double casement. The ground floor has been altered due to the 20th-century additions. The east end elevation mirrors the front, with a two-window range, all 4x4 sashes, and ground floor windows with segment heads. There is a central stack on the hipped roof. The west end elevation is similar to the east end but lacks a ground floor window at the south end; instead, there is a single ground-floor window with horns. The wall of the extension is from the 19th century and features a horned sash window similar to those in the main house. The west extension is likely a rebuild of an earlier rear addition. The interior has been completely reworked in the 20th century.
