Description
The house at Peartree Hall Farmhouse is a timber-framed building dating back to the 14th century, with significant alterations in the 16th and 18th centuries. Originally built in a T-plan facing southeast, it has end stacks and two storeys, with an earlier range to the southwest featuring an axial stack at the end and one storey with attics. The entrance front now faces northwest, and features a two-window range of 18th and 19th century sash windows with glazing bars. A simple doorcase is topped with a flat canopy. Some timber framing is visible internally, including details from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. The roof is covered with handmade red plain tiles, and the rafters are smoke-blackened. The house was divided into two dwellings around 1615 and re-combined in 1671. A map from 1598 depicts a short lane running south of the house, which turned left to reach the farmyard; the main entrance would then have been from this lane, rather than from the highway to the west.
