Description
Hibernia Cottages is a terrace of 12 cottages built in 1872 for Robert Hunt and Co., Atlas Ironworks. The cottages are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring white brick dressings, and are topped with 20th-century grey corrugated tiles. The building has two storeys and a 12-window range of original sash windows with 16 lights, many of which still contain original glass, all set beneath segmental arches. The paired plain doors also have segmental arches. The quoins, as well as all window and door openings, are accented with contrasting white bricks. A central plaque is inscribed with 'Hibernia Cottages 1872'. This terrace is a rare survival in Essex.
