Description

A terrace of ten cottages dating to 1876, built for Robert Hunt and Co., Atlas Ironworks, and located on the east side of Foundry Lane, Earls Colne. The cottages are constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with white brick dressings. The roof is covered with 20th-century grey corrugated tiles. The design is presented as a 10-window range, featuring original 16-light sash windows with segmental arches and many retaining original glass. Each cottage has a paired entrance door, also with a segmental arch surround. The quoins and window and door surrounds are highlighted with contrasting white brick. As of April 1986, all windows and doors remained original. A central plaque is inscribed “Bellevue Cottages 1876.” This terrace represents a rare survival in Essex.
