Description

The pump located on the triangular green at the junction with Coggeshall Road was built in 1853 and is made of cast iron. It has an octagonal shape and stands on an octagonal plinth. Designed in the Gothic Revival style, it features a moulded base and recessed traceried panels on each side, topped with an octagonal ogee domed cap. The base of the pump is inscribed with a message commemorating the absence of cholera, stating, "This well was digged in the year of grace 1853 in thankful commemoration of the absence of cholera. For the common use of the people and so to promote unto cleanliness our wells. Bless in the Lord Save Him Magnify Him for ever." The spout has an interlaced design.
