Description
Dynes Cottage is a building that was originally a forge and dates back to the 14th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and has a plastered exterior, topped with a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. The structure features a 3-bay crosswing that is gabled towards the street and was once connected to a hall located to the left, which is now known as No. 4 Spoutwell House. The cottage has two storeys and was previously jettied towards the street, although this has been underbuilt.
There is a 16th-century stack at the rear of the building. On the ground floor, there is one 18th-century sash window with glazing bars, while the first floor features a 20th-century leaded casement window. The door is adorned with a moulded architrave and a small pedimented hood. Inside, much of the original frame remains exposed, including one mutilated double-ogee doorhead. Additionally, there are remnants of a 14th-century forge furnace stack located in the center of the building.
