Description

The Fox and Hounds is a public house dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with extensions added in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is timber-framed and roughcast rendered, with a slate roof. The main building comprises four bays aligned north-south, featuring an external chimney stack at the south end and an eastern aspect. A parallel range was added to the rear in the 18th century. 20th-century lean-to extensions are present to the north of both the original building and rear range. A further rear extension, with a 19th-century chimney stack and a corrugated iron shed roof, extends from the north end. The building is two stories high. The front entrance is through a half-glazed door. Late 18th-century features include a horizontally sliding sash window with 32 panes, and a splayed bay of double-hung sash windows with 4-16-4 panes. A 20th-century casement window is also present. The first floor has two 19th-century casement windows. The roofs are steeply pitched. Inside, the building has plain-chamfered beams, with the joists plastered to the soffits.
