Description

The Manor House and the Post Office is a house dating from the early 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof primarily covered in handmade red clay tiles, along with some machine-made tiles. The building consists of four bays aligned approximately east-west, facing south, and features an axial chimney stack located in the second bay from the west end, which creates a lobby entrance. There is an external chimney stack at the eastern end.

The house is two storeys high with attics and has a two-storey extension to the south of the eastern end that dates from the 18th century. The entrance includes a six-panel door set within a pedimented doorcase, flanked by fluted jambs and a triglyph frieze. The façade features two two-storey splayed bays with double-hung sash windows arranged in a pattern of 8-12-8 lights, as well as one double-hung sash window with 12 lights located above the door, all from the 18th century. The building has a parapet and two gabled dormers, which are currently blocked.

The main chimney stack is notable for its two recessed panels at the base, an ovolo-moulded cornice, and four octagonal shafts with moulded bases, which have been rebuilt at the top. The southern wing includes a door and double bay shop windows, with one 20th-century casement window above. It features a dentilled cornice and a hipped roof with a blocked gabled dormer. Additionally, the southern wing has re-used roll-moulded joists above the ground floor, which date from the 16th century.
