Description

This retaining wall, dating to the 17th century and later, runs along the north side of the churchyard in Steeple Bumpstead, between the churchyard and Church Street, spanning approximately 60 metres from a lock-up to the east of the church, adjacent to the National School. The wall is constructed of a mix of materials including re-used limestone ashlar, pebble rubble, and red brick in various bonds. Seven buttresses of different periods are incorporated into the north face of the wall.
