Description
This is a mid-19th century stable block situated approximately 80 metres north-west of Beslyns Farmhouse. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern and has a slate roof. It is arranged in an L-shape, with wings extending to the southeast and southwest, the latter wing featuring a central stack. The stable block is single storey in height. The southwest elevation has two original casement windows and a pair of double doors. The southeast elevation includes a recessed porch with a single original window and a plain boarded door, plus two pairs of double doors. The roof is hipped and has a shallow pitch. The northeastern range contains two loose boxes and three stalls, with original iron and wooden partitions, hay racks, water troughs, and a floor of ridged blue tiles. The southwest wing incorporates two harness rooms, one of which is heated and has walls lined with matchboarding, along with original harness racks. The stable block has survived unaltered from its original construction, retaining all internal surfaces and fixtures, representing a rare example. It is listed for its exceptional state of preservation and its group value context with Beslyns Cottage and an adjoining barn.
