Description
The White Lion is a public house that dates back to the 15th century or earlier, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed with a timber frame and rough render, featuring some painted brick. The roof is covered with red plain tiles and is hipped at the left rear range, with a forward jettied gabled crosswing to the right. There is a 20th-century flat-roofed single-storey extension at the front of the left range. A red brick chimney stack is located on the left side of the building. The structure has two storeys, with a window arrangement of 2:1 on the first floor and 2:0 on the ground floor, predominantly consisting of small paned vertically sliding sashes. There are half-glazed doors on the left and right ranges, and iron railings with ornate posts adorn the flat roof verges. The building is reputed to have served as a Poor House at one time.
