Description
26-30 Chippinghill is an early 16th century timber-framed and plastered house, built around 1500, featuring cross wings at both the east and west ends. The south end of the west crosswing has a jettied upper storey. The building has a three-window range with 18th century double-hung sash windows that include glazing bars, all set in flush cased frames. The ground storey features a three-light bay at the east end. The roofs are tiled and there is an L-shaped chimney stack. Inside, the house has moulded ceiling beams and joists. This property is part of a group that includes No 18 and the Smithy, Nos 20 to 30 (even), the Parish Church of St Nicholas, the Vicarage, No 35 (Barnardiston), and Nos 43 to 55 (odd), as well as No 2 (White Horse Public House) and Nos 4 and 6 Church Street.
