Description

A 15th and 17th century timber-framed and plastered building with an 18th century extension at the south-east end. The north-east end retains a 15th century timber frame, and a wing extends south-west dating to the 17th century. The building is two storeys high. The frontages were altered in the 18th century and renovated in the 20th century. The main block has a four-window range with double-hung sashes and glazing bars, set within flush cased frames. The wing and north-west front have 20th century casement windows. There is a six-panel door with a pedimented doorcase. The roofs are tiled, with remains of an original crown post roof at the north-east end. The property forms a group with numbers 18 and the Smithy, numbers 20 to 30 (even), the Parish Church of St Nicholas, the Vicarage, numbers 43 to 55 (odd), number 2 (White Horse Public House), numbers 4 and 6 Church Street, and with number 7 (Woolpack Inn) and numbers 22 to 48 (even) Church Street.
