Description
43 and 45 Chippinghill is a 15th to 16th century timber-framed and plastered house that was altered in the 17th century. It features a cross wing at the north-west end, with the upper storey jettied on the north front supported by brackets. The windows are primarily 20th-century casements with leaded lights. An early 19th-century double-fronted shop front with glazing bars has been constructed beneath the cross wing jetty. The central section has a 15th to 16th-century frame with a crown post roof, and the cellar includes some flint rubble. The roof is tiled and has one gabled dormer at the north-west end. The house underwent renovations in the 20th century. It is part of a group that includes No 18 and Smithy, Nos 20 to 30 (even), the Parish Church of St Nicholas, The Vicarage, No 35 (Barnardiston), Nos 43 to 55 (odd), No 2 (White Horse Public House), and Nos 4 and 6 Church Street.
