Description
This building is a house located 5 metres south of number 19 on Upper Holt Street in Earls Colne. It dates back to the early 15th century and features a timber frame with plastering, topped with a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. Originally, it served as the service crosswing of a hall house, although the main part of the hall has since been demolished.
The house has a gabled and jettied facade facing the street, with the jetty underbuilt. There is a red brick external stack on the right side, and a 20th-century single-storey lean-to extension at the back, which is roofed with red clay pantiles. The building stands two storeys tall and has a one-window range of 20th-century casements, along with a plain boarded door. Inside, much of the timber frame is exposed, showcasing jowled posts, cambered tiebeams, and a crownpost roof. There are also two original doorways and some original window openings. It is important to note that number 19 is not listed.
