Description
Wistaria House is an early 19th-century house located on the north side of Queen Street in Coggeshall. The building is mainly plastered, with a façade made of gault brick in Flemish bond and a slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan facing southeast, featuring one chimney stack on the left return and another at the rear of the wing. The house is two storeys high and has a two-window range of original sash windows, each with 16 lights, near-flat arches, and crown glass. Above the central door, there is a similar blank aperture. The entrance features an early 19th-century six-panel door, with lower panels flush, middle panels fielded, and top panels glazed, set within a pedimented plaster doorcase that has panelled jambs and soffit. The entrance is accessed by four stone steps, which have the original attached railing on each side, consisting of D-section wrought iron handrails that are scrolled under at the ends, and two cast iron scrolled stanchions on each side.
