Description

This is a house, now used as offices, dating from around 1600. It incorporates a fragment of a 14th-century house and was altered in 1984. The building is timber-framed with plaster infill and has a roof covered in handmade red plain tiles. It comprises a main range facing northwest, with two rear wings attached. There are two stacks: one at the junction of the main range and the left wing, and another at the right end of the main range. A single-storey extension is located at the rear of the right wing.

The house is two storeys high with attics. The front elevation features a two-window arrangement. It has early 19th-century sash windows, each with 16 lights, and a late 19th-century sash window on the ground floor. A 19th-century casement window is located in a gabled dormer. The front door is a 20th-century six-panel door set within an early 19th-century reeded architrave with decorative paterae, and a stone step that is almost level with the pavement.

Inside, there are chamfered axial beams with run-out stops, some of which are partially boxed in. In the right front bay, non-structural, moulded joists have been added. The left front bay contains an early 19th-century fireplace and plain, horizontally-sectioned joists, some of which are plastered over. The left rear wing has a wide wood-burning hearth. Part of the original 14th-century hall is exposed in the right wall, showing framing with wide curved display braces trenched into the studs, all heavily smoke-blackened. This section abuts a wide vehicle way with rooms above, which is part of the adjacent property at number 32. Major alterations in 1984 have removed much of the internal structure and introduced some false features.
