Description

Little Lodge Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with later alterations. It is constructed from timber framing and plaster, topped with a red plain tiled roof that is hipped to the left and features a gabled crosswing to the right. The building has a brick plinth and includes a large external red brick chimney stack on the left, which is dated 1757, and a very large stack on the right, which has a moulded panel inscribed with "IV 1588 SEP 14" and the molet emblem of the De Vere family.

The house has two storeys, attics, and a cellar, with an attic window in the gable. The window arrangement consists of three windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor, primarily featuring three-light vertically sliding sashes with glazing bars in the upper sashes. The central entrance is a 20th-century plank and muntin door, sheltered by a red tiled porch supported by brackets. There are also brackets along the gable band and a moulded central band.

At the rear, there is a 19th-century wing with an attached outbuilding, and a wing to the left that is hipped to the left, forming a rear courtyard. This farmhouse is reputed to be one of the original hunting lodges associated with Hedingham Castle. Inside, there are five fireplaces in the main stack, one of which features a segmental brick arch and a plastered Tudor arch in the attic. The interior also includes heavy stop-chamfered bridging joists and some exposed framing with a mullion window. A fire in the 20th century destroyed the roof of the main range.
