Description

Sparrows Bridge is an accommodation bridge built around 1865. It is constructed from wrought and cast iron with a timber deck and rendered brick abutments. The bridge features a single span and a bar-stayed cantilever design, supported by four cast iron towers topped with spike finials. It also has decorative cast iron balustrades, although at the time of the survey, most of the balustrade panels were missing and the deck had been concreted. This type of bridge is rare, and few from this period still exist. The bridge originally carried the driveway through the park to Gosfield Place, which was also built around 1865 on the site of an earlier mansion belonging to B Sparrow Esq. The house was demolished around 1925.
