Description
Dial House and Dial Cottage is a house that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with later alterations and additions. The building is timber framed and plastered, topped with a red tiled roof. It features a central range flanked by crosswings on both sides, with the left crosswing jettied. The gables of the crosswings are decorated with batten detailing. There are wings at the rear of the building, and the left front and right return have external red brick chimney stacks. The left chimney stack has a 19th-century spiral shaft on an octagonal base, which includes a recessed stucco sundial beneath it. This stack also has a recessed arch at its base that is pierced by a window. The building is two storeys tall, with a window arrangement of 2:1:1 on the first floor and 1:1:1 on the ground floor, featuring vari-light leaded casements. To the left, there is a vertically boarded door with a Tudor head. The interior is reputed to contain 16th-century panelling, including panels carved with human heads, moulded ceiling beams and joists, and a crown post roof.
