Description
The former smithy, dating from the 17th century, is located adjoining the road and approximately 7 metres east of John Ray Cottage in Black Notley. It is constructed with a timber frame and is weatherboarded, featuring a half hipped red tiled roof. The building has double doors on the left side and two small vertically boarded window openings on the right. This structure was used as a smithy by John Ray's father.
