Description
This granary, located approximately 6 metres east-south-east of Smiths Green Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century. It is timber framed and covered with weatherboarding, featuring a roof made of handmade red clay tiles and base walls constructed from red brick. The structure consists of two bays aligned east-west and stands two storeys high. Inside, there are straight braces set into heavy studding, and the joists have a vertical section that is jointed to the beam with soffit tenons that have diminished haunches, lodged at the outside. The original floorboards remain intact, and there are bins still in place on the first floor. The roof was rebuilt in the 19th century, complete with a ridge.
