Description
The Church of St. Nicholas War Memorial Cross is located in the southeast corner of the churchyard, approximately 30 metres southeast of the chancel. This war memorial cross features a shaft and base that date back to the 12th century or earlier. The shaft, which is tapered, is intricately carved on all four sides with decorative bosses along the chamfered edges. It stands on a carved square base and is topped with a 20th-century cross. The cross was discovered in the cellar of the Falcon Inn in 1921 and was incorporated into the memorial design by P.M. Johnson. It is also mentioned in the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England.
