Description
This barn, located 30 metres southeast of Withies Green Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is timber framed and clad with corrugated asbestos and weatherboarding, standing on a plinth of red brick laid in Flemish bond. The roof is covered with corrugated asbestos and handmade red plain tiles. The barn consists of three bays oriented approximately north-south, with a midstrey on the west side. There is a lean-to extension in the southwest corner, which is roofed with red clay pantiles. The plinth is approximately 1.20 metres high, featuring unjowled posts and primary straight bracing. The structure has bolted knees to the straight tiebeams and a clasped purlin roof with collars at half-bay intervals. Laths for the former thatch remain on the main roof, which has been replaced by corrugated asbestos, while the roof of the midstrey and the valleys are tiled. This barn is included for its group value.
