Description
This building is a barn located 25 metres south-west of Schill's Farmhouse. It dates from the late 14th century and has undergone alterations in the late 16th and 17th centuries. The barn is timber framed, covered with weatherboarding and plaster, and has a roof made of corrugated iron. It consists of three bays aligned approximately northeast to southwest and features two aisles. There is a 17th-century gabled midstrey on the southeast side, along with 18th or 19th-century lean-to extensions at each end, which give the barn the external appearance of a five-bay structure with gablet hips. A lean-to extension is present in the western angle. The aisle ties and jowled arcade posts are trenched for former passing braces, and there are arched braces to the arcade plates and complete cambered tiebeams. The arcade-plate features a face-halved and bladed scarf joint. The arcade-post to the north of the midstrey has been severed at mid-height and is supported by a 20th-century bolted structure. The midstrey has unjowled posts, and the roof is a clasped purlin type that is lightly charred.
