TL 8422-8522 COGGESHALL ABBEY LANE (south side)

9/15 Cartlodge/shelter shed 60 metres south of Coggeshall Abbey (residence)

Cartlodge, now shelter shed. C16 or earlier. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with corrugated iron. 2 bays aligned N-S, originally open at both sides, now boarded on E side, open at W side. Jowled posts, arched braces to wallplates and to tiebeams. Clasped purlin roof; in the middle truss the purlins are supported on and clasped by unusual queen posts with enlarged heads, without a collar. Original wattle and daub in S gable. Timber at N end heavily weathered, now abutting on early C17 barn (item 9/16, q.v.).
