Description

Hovell's Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is timber framed, plastered, and has a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. The building has a square plan facing approximately north, with two internal stacks arranged symmetrically. At the rear, there is a lower service range with an internal stack and a 20th-century extension that has a roof covered with corrugated asbestos. The farmhouse is two storeys high.

On the ground floor, there are three late 18th-century to early 19th-century sash windows, each with 12 lights and crown glass. The first floor features four late 18th-century to early 19th-century sash windows with a configuration of 3+6 lights. The entrance has an off-centre six-panel door, where the upper four panels are fielded and moulded while the lower panels are flush. This door is set in a wooden doorcase with attached Tuscan columns, a fanlight with radial tracery, and an open pediment.

The east elevation has two early 19th-century sash windows with 16 lights on the ground floor, along with one 20th-century casement window, and two 19th-century casements on the first floor. The roofs are linked in a parallel arrangement and are fully hipped. A map from 1731 indicates that a different house once stood on this site, featuring a ridge stack near the left end, an external stack at the right end, and four gables.
