Description

Harvey's Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is timber framed, weatherboarded, and plastered, with a roof covered in handmade red plain tiles. The building has an L-shape, facing south, featuring a crosswing at the left end that includes a 19th or 20th-century internal stack at the front left corner, and a main range with an internal stack at the right end. There is a single-storey extension from the 19th century at the rear of the crosswing, which also has an internal stack. The house is one storey high with attics and has a two-window range of 20th-century casements. The front entrance features a late 19th-century half-glazed door with a plain overlight. The front is weatherboarded while the remaining sides are plastered, with a one-metre high exposed base wall of red brick in Flemish bond on the right return and rear of the main range. The ridge of the crosswing is lower than that of the main range. Inside the crosswing, there are jowled posts, curved bracing that is trenched inside heavy studding, which is partly exposed. The main range has a deeply chamfered axial beam and some plain joists with a horizontal section. The left crosswing has a clasped purlin roof, while the other areas are ceiled. Most of the timber frame is concealed by internal finishes.
