Description
51 to 55 Chippinghill is a late 15th century timber-framed and plastered house featuring cross wings at both the east and west ends, which are Nos 51 and 53. Originally, these cross wings had jettied upper storeys, but the east wing has been extended at the ground storey. No 55 is a later addition. The building has two storeys and attics, with 18th century fenestration, including double-hung sashes with glazing bars. Nos 51 and 53 have 18th century bays on the ground storey, while No 55 features an 18th century shop window with glazing bars. The doorways are accessed by steps, and the roofs are tiled, including one gabled dormer. This building is part of a group that includes No 18, Smithy, Nos 20 to 30 (even), the Parish Church of St Nicholas, the Vicarage, No 35 (Barnardiston), Nos 43 to 55 (odd), No 2 (White Horse Public House), and Nos 4 and 6 Church Street.
