Description
A pair of cottages dated 1827, built of stock brick in Flemish bond with a slate roof and two end brick chimneystacks. The cottages are two storeys and have a basement, with four windows visible from the front. A projecting central section of two bays features a pedimented gable and two round-headed doorcases, each with a fanlight and a six-panelled door. Pilasters mark the ends of the central projection. The windows have rubbed brick voussoirs and ogee heads and contain 16-pane sash windows set in reveals. Cellars are lit by ground-level windows with a 3 over 3 pattern, featuring gratings. The partly projecting chimneystacks have tumbled brickwork details. A plaque under the gable reads "I C 1827". These cottages were built for John Crump, tenant farmer at Freebornes, and were later developed alongside adjacent properties by his daughters.
