Description

This is a house, likely dating from the 17th century or earlier, with later alterations and an 18th-century facade. It is timber-framed with panelled plaster walls. The roof is covered with red clay tiles, and there is a red brick chimney stack. A moulded eaves cornice is visible. A two-storey, lean-to extension is located on the left-hand side. The front of the house has two bays, featuring vertically sliding sash windows with glazing bars, and ceiling-level windows to the right and left. The central door has six panels, with pilasters featuring moulded capitals, and a moulded soffit to an open pediment. There has been some confusion with a previous listing, which referred to the house as Clare Cottage. It is probable that the correct name was "House opposite Swaynes and Clare Cottage."
