Description

Dovehouse, built around 1800, is located approximately 7 metres southeast of Blois Farmhouse. It has a timber frame and is weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The structure has a square plan and its exterior is completely covered by creeper. Inside, the dovehouse is lined with nesting boxes made of flat vertical and horizontal slabs of unfired clay mixed with chopped straw, which are approximately 25mm thick. Dovehouses constructed in this manner are rare in Essex.
