Description

Pheasant Cottage is a house that dates back to the late medieval period, with alterations made in the late 16th century and the 20th century. It features a timber frame with plastering and a thatched roof. The house has a two-bay hall that faces southeast, with a late 16th-century axial stack located in the right bay, a parlour or solar bay to the left, and a service bay to the right. There is a 19th-century external stack at the rear of the right bay. The cottage is one storey high with attics. On the ground floor, there are three 19th-century horizontally sliding sash windows, each with 24 lights, and two 20th-century casement windows in eyebrow dormers. The front door is made of horizontal boards and dates from the 19th century. The roof is half-hipped at both ends. Inside, the cottage features jowled posts, heavy studding, and unglazed windows with three diamond mullions in the rear wall of the two left bays. There is a shutter rebate and diamond mortices for the main hall window in the front of the second bay from the left. All floors have been inserted, and the house has chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops, along with plain joists of horizontal section from the late 16th century. The roof structure is not accessible.
