Description
Lightwater Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The cottage has four bays facing southwest and features an axial stack located one bay from the right end. There is a single-storey extension at the back of the right end, added around 1970. The building is one storey high with attics. On the ground floor, there are three 20th-century casement windows with diamond leading and louvred external shutters. The gabled dormers also contain three 20th-century casements with diamond leading. A 20th-century door is located in the left return. The roof is half-hipped at both ends. Inside, the cottage features chamfered axial beams, some with lamb's tongue stops, and exposed plain joists arranged in horizontal and vertical sections. The front wallplate shows a face-halved and bladed scarf joint. There is a large hearth facing to the left, which has been extensively altered.
