Description

The granary, now used as an office and garage, dates from the early 16th century. It is timber framed, weatherboarded, and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building consists of two bays aligned northwest to southeast, facing southeast, and features a front wall that is sharply angled to align with the road. Originally, the granary extended further to the rear, but it now has a single-storey lean-to extension at the back, roofed with corrugated clay tiles over corrugated iron. The structure is two storeys high and has one 20th-century casement window on the first floor, along with garage doors. The posts are jowled at half-height and at the tops, and the heavy close studding includes curved tension braces that are trenched to the outside. Inside, there are chamfered binding and bridging beams, with plain joists of horizontal section that are jointed to them using soffit tenons with diminished haunches; some of these joists have been renewed. There are unglazed windows at both levels, with some featuring diamond mullions and grooves for sliding shutters. A blocked original doorway with a straight head is located in the right return wall near the front corner. The roof features crownposts with axial braces.
