Description
Western's Cottages is a house that has been divided into two cottages. It dates from the mid-16th century and was altered in the 19th century. The building is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. It has four bays facing northeast, featuring a 19th-century internal stack in the second bay from the right end and a 19th-century external stack at each end. There is a 19th-century rear extension with a central stack, creating a T-plan, along with a small 20th-century extension beyond, both of which have slate roofs. The structure is two storeys high and has a four-window range of 20th-century casements and two 20th-century doors. The roof has a gablet hip at each end. Inside the left cottage, there are chamfered axial and transverse beams with step stops and chamfered joists that have a horizontal section with plain stops. The right cottage features a transverse beam that is boxed in. The building also has jowled posts and a clasped purlin roof.
