Description
Landermere Cottage is a pair of attached cottages that have been combined into one house. It dates from the 18th century and has been altered in the early 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed, roughcast rendered, and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. It features three bays facing southwest with a central stack and an early 19th-century rear wing that includes an internal stack at the end, creating a T-plan. There is a 20th-century single-storey lean-to extension in the rear right angle and a flat-roofed extension added in 1985 in the rear left angle.
The cottage is one storey high with attics and has two 20th-century casements, along with two more in gabled dormers. The entrance features a 20th-century door, and the building has gambrel roofs. Inside, there are chamfered transverse beams without stops, three wood-burning hearths, and two original winder stairs located at the rear of the stack. The primary bracing is straight, and some brick nogging has been inserted into the rear wall of the main block. The structure was altered to form one house with minimal disturbance to the original features. Historical records from the tithe award of 1840 indicate that the building was owned by Sarah Sallows and occupied by four tenants, suggesting it was subdivided at that time.
