Description
The Hinxton War Memorial is a granite structure that features a 3-meter tall Celtic wheel cross on a tapered shaft, which is mounted on a chamfered square plinth resting on a narrow base step. The front face of both the cross and the shaft is dressed and recessed, with the cross displaying an interwoven Celtic knot-work design carved in relief. The front and rear faces of the shaft, the plinth, and the base step are all incised with black-painted inscriptions.
The front face of the shaft has the inscription "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HINXTON WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919." The front face of the plinth lists the names of the eight men who were killed in the First World War. The front face of the base carries the inscription "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOREVER." On the rear face of the plinth, the date "1939 – 1945" is inscribed, along with the names of the four men who died in the Second World War.
The memorial is surrounded by a raised stone curb, with a granite bollard at each corner. These bollards are connected by a metal rail fence, and the ground around the memorial is covered with gravel.
