Description
50 and 52 High Street is a house that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century and has undergone later alterations and additions. The building features an exposed timber frame with plastered infill and a cemented brick plinth, topped with tiled roofs. It has a ridge stack, an end stack on the left side, and a rear stack. The structure is two storeys high, with a north cellar in the main range that jetties out over the street, and a lower rear wing to the north. There are two 19th-century gable end lean-tos. The main range consists of two bays with tension braces that are tenoned to the posts and studs, and it has curved jetty brackets at the bays. The entrances are located on the left and right sides, with a cellar entrance on the left. On the ground floor, there are two casement windows, with the right-hand window originally having a moulded sill, and two similar casement windows on the first floor. Inside, there are stop-chamfered ceiling beams and a moulded bressumer above a sealed hearth in the eastern room.
