Description
Rectory Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a roof raise and extension from the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with broad mortar courses on the plinth and moulded brick at the upper edge. The 19th-century roof is covered with slate and features a 17th-century ridge stack made of red brick, with four grouped shafts that were rebuilt in the 19th century. The original layout includes a lobby entry and three bays, possibly with a contemporary single-storey kitchen wing at the rear. The main part of the house has two storeys and an attic.
On the first floor, there are three window openings, mostly enlarged in the 19th century, including one three-light window with an ovolo mullion at the north end and another with segmental arched top panes. The ground floor features a similar window with a grill. The rear wall has been partly rebuilt in white brick, and there are small original openings for the newell staircase beside the stack. A 19th-century addition at the front is made of gault brick with red brick dressings and has a slate roof, standing at one storey.
Inside, the kitchen wing has abutting inglenook hearths and exposed ceiling beams, while the original dairy is located at the north end of the main range.
