Description
The loose boxes and stock sheds, located 20 yards southwest of the Great Barn at Wimpole Hall, were designed by Sir John Soane around 1800 and form three sides of a farmyard. They have been restored and feature a timber frame with weatherboarding on a brick plinth. The roof is made of combed wheat reed thatch, hipped at the ends, with some areas covered in slate. The layout is in an E plan, consisting of one storey and one storey with a loft in the wings. Each wing has three bargeboarded gable dormers, with two being louvered and one having a pitch opening. The south side is single storey, and a brick wing projects into the yard, made of gault brick with a slate roof.
