Description
The Great Barn at Park Farm, located about half a mile northeast of Wimpole Hall, is a barn built around 1800 by Sir John Soane. It has been restored and features a timber frame with weatherboarding on a brick plinth. The roof is made of combed wheat reed and is half-hipped. The barn consists of eight bays, with two mid-streys on the south side. Inside, it has jowled heads on the posts, braced tiebeams, and a Queen post roof with bracing struts supporting the principal rafters. There is also straight wall bracing and some inserted timber. The barn is part of a planned group of farm buildings constructed for the Earl of Hardwicke and forms one side of the farmyard.
