Description

A row of estate cottages dating to the 18th and 19th centuries. The cottages are built of red brick with a tiled, half-hipped roof, featuring a plain brick eaves cornice and three ridge stacks with projecting capping. A plat band runs between the two storeys. There are six hipped dormers with tiled cheeks, and a six-window front featuring recessed cross frame casement windows on both floors. A doorway has a boarded door sheltered by lean-to canopies supported on brackets. A row of similar brick cottages is depicted in a watercolour by Humfry Repton, illustrating his plans for the remodelling of the park in 1801. Repton’s survey map of 1801 also shows four semi-detached pairs of cottages.
