Description
Spring Cottage is a mid-17th century cottage that underwent alterations around 1820 and was renovated in the mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with roughcast and plaster rendering on a brick plinth, topped with a mid-20th century tiled roof that is half hipped. The cottage has three bays and a lobby entry, with one storey and an attic. There are two early 19th century gable dormers and two enlarged 20th century windows on either side of the doorway to the lobby entry. Additionally, there is one early 19th century horizontal sliding sash window on the gable end and a lean-to addition at one end.
Inside, the cottage has abutting inglenook hearths made of clunch blocks with red brick and stop-chamfered main beams. The roof was replaced in the mid-20th century. One room was converted into a shop in the late 19th century and retains bead and quirk boarding.
