Description
Pates Farmhouse is a cottage with origins dating back to the 16th century, which was altered and expanded in the 17th century. The building is timber-framed, plaster rendered, and has a reed thatched roof. It features a 17th-century red brick ridge stack, which has been rebuilt at the upper courses. The farmhouse has a three-bay plan and now has its entry on the left-hand gable end. It is one storey high with an attic and has three small window openings on the front elevation, which are fitted with 20th-century casements. Inside, the farmhouse has stop-chamfered main beams and a fireplace lintel, and there is smoke blackening on the rafters, indicating a possible earlier origin.
