Description
Claypit Cottages is a cottage that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the mid 17th century, with restorations and extensions made in the mid 20th century. The building is timber-framed, rendered, and features a steeply pitched tiled roof with a red brick ridge stack, which has been partially rebuilt in grey brick. An end stack was added in the 19th century. The cottage consists of four bays, including a fire bay and a likely lobby entry, and is two storeys high.
On the west elevation, there are mid 20th century horizontal sliding sash windows at the first floor, while the ground floor has larger windows, also from the mid 20th century. Inside, the cottage features abutting inglenook hearths with stop-chamfered lintels. The framing is exposed, with downward bracing visible at the first floor. The floor joists have been replaced in one end bay, and the roof is a through-purlin type.
