Description

The Vicarage is a house dating from 1761, with possible earlier origins, and was remodeled around 1860. It is constructed of timber framing, rendered and narrow gault brick, with some grey gault brick added around 1860. The roof is covered with cement tiles and some slates. The building has a symmetrical design with flush end stacks on the principal range from 1761. Originally, it had a single range plan with a parallel hall and stair bay at the rear, while the service wing has likely been rebuilt. In the 1860 remodeling, a parish room and new service wings were added at the rear. The house has two storeys and an attic.

The garden front maintains the symmetry of an 18th-century facade with three bays, but features two-storey dormers and a central porch made of gault brick from around 1860. The main east front has a gable porch at the doorway, and there is a parish doorway at the rear. In the garden, there is a crinkle-crankle wall with three undulations, made of brick and stone piers from around 1860, flanking the original entry.

Inside, the house features an original staircase with two flights and a landing, characterized by an open string with square newels and turned balusters of vase and Doric column type, along with a toads-back handrail. There are several two raised and fielded panelled doors, and a shouldered fireplace surround on the first floor. The cellar is lined with soft red brick, possibly from an earlier house on the site.
