Description
Leigh Cottage is a house that has been converted into three dwellings. It dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century and was enlarged in the mid to late 17th century. The building is timber-framed, plaster rendered, and has a longstraw thatched roof. A ridge stack from the late 17th to early 18th century has its upper courses rebuilt in 1831, as indicated by a dated stone.
The layout features a hall and crosswing plan, with a later single bay wing added to the front left, creating a half-H shape. The hall is two storeys high and has two 20th-century casements on the first floor. The original doorway is located at the end of the hall. The crosswing consists of three bays and is also two storeys tall, featuring two 20th-century casements on the gable end. The left-hand front wing is two storeys high as well and has two 20th-century windows.
The interior of the left-hand crosswing addition was inspected and shows 19th-century details in the cupboards and doors.
